THIS TOXIC HOLIDAY MINDSET WILL TANK YOUR HEALTH GOALS

IT IS SO DIFFICULT TO RECOVER FROM!

If you ever found yourself stuck and thinking "I just can't get my mojo back", I just need to get my head in the game" "I know what to do, I just need to DO it"

I bet it was after a break, a vacation, a party weekend, a STRING of celebratory weekends, or THE HOLIDAYS.

Because these "breaks" are so hard to rebound from, it's best to get control of the "break" and go into it with INTENTION and your long term goals in the forefront.

TOO many temptations, too many choices and it just doesn't seem to fit with what you are trying to do?

HERE'S WHERE IT ALL STARTS this time of year:

"It's SO HARD/IMPOSSIBLE to lose weight or be healthy over the Holidays" - sound familiar? Want to bust thru that?

First let's talk about WHY these individual Holidays end up being a 2 month sugar-fest (or should I say sugar poisoning)

Ok, the WINTER HOLIDAY SEASON (or as I call them, the sugar poisoning season) is upon us.

🎃🍫 Halloween 🍫🎃

With all the candy (sure, make them mini so we don’t think they’re so bad, yet we eat at least twice as much….hmmmm)

🥧 🦃 Thanksgiving 🦃 🥧

This is a BEAUTIFUL day, set aside officially even by the U.S. Government to give us a DAY of gratitude and remembrance. So it’s almost always a four day weekend, and it seems to be defined by the dessert, comfort food and the over consumption of any healthy options.

🎄🧁Christmas 🧁🎄

I LOVE Christmas, I’m already playing the music, saving decor ideas and counting down until I decorate. I most of all love to remember the birth of Jesus, the REAL Reason for the Season. There is CAUSE to celebrate, it’s the most important birthday EVER. But does it really have to last for the entire month of December? I’m not talking the celebration, man, celebrate that all year long - I’m talking about all the cookies, candies, party trays, desserts, etc that go on non-stop.

So with all of this going on, it might seem to make sense when you hear “It’s IMPOSSIBLE to lose weight, or be healthy from Halloween until the first of the year”

Before I jump into WHY this little sentence might send you on a downward spiral that's so difficult to rebound from, let me as you this - On your road to weight loss and health creation, do you PROCLAIM and identify as the person you want to become?

“I am a healthy person”

That is the first step, what does the HEALTHY you do?

Why does that get into our head?

  1. It Sounds Good..

It sounds so good and kinda gives us an out, doesn’t it? (did I hit a nerve?)

  1. The Power of Suggestion..

The Power of Suggestion is just that - POWERFUL!. I can think of more than a handful of times I heard something and claimed it as my own, without really taking time to form my own opinion or use logic to determine if that "thing" was really just a hangup of someone else that I had adopted?? Is it really WORTH being "my thing"?

  1. Your own Personal Experience..

Your own personal experience of past Holiday Season weight gain.. That's your proof, right? So is it a learning opportunity to CHANGE or is it a self-fulfilling prophesy?

UNLESS


Unless you CHOOSE to look at it differently, be in control of your actions and lead with intention instead of letting your emotions lead the way causing you to CAVE, with an excuse (those three points above). 

Here are some sound bites to adopt instead:

1 - Just because it always has been doesn’t mean it always will be. Remember that you are in control. What outcome do you want REALLY? If you are happy with your weight (and adding more), if you are happy with your lab results, happy with the way your clothes are fitting and it would be ok if they were a little more snug, happy with your energy level and what you are able to do (or not do) with family and friends… if you are HAPPY with all of that, GREAT, you are all set.

BUT IF YOU WANT better of any of those things, think about what you’re reality will be on January 1 if you make a change or if you go with the flow (the never ending flow of food)

2 - You CAN enjoy a few holiday meals, treats, parties, special occasions - but PLAN THEM and determine the results you want.

Halloween Day, (ok, I know there is candy, etc leading up to the actual day, just being conservative here), 30 days in November, 31 days in December - we’re talking a Holiday Season of about 61 Days.

Of those 61 Days, how many will you designate for holiday meals, treats, parties, special occasions?. EVEN if it’s 10, which is kind of high, that still leaves 51 days that you can chart your healthy habits (nutrition and movement) to reach your ultimate goal. 

If you DON’T decide when and how much, you will find a way to justify 61 days of bad choices. Ask me how I know.

My Clients and myself eat 6 times a day, so I like to use this analogy -

61 days X 6 meals a day = 366 meals between Halloween and New Years.

Say 10 of those are the treats, etc, that still leaves 356 GREAT OPPORTUNITIES to make HEALTHY CHOICES.

3 - If you are striving for HEALTH, This is a much easier road. EasIER, not necessarily EASY. But WORTH IT.

Ask yourself:

  • How will this make me feel? (Physically and emotionally after you’ve caved ONCE AGAIN)

  • Is this CONTROLLING ME? (think addiction - if you can’t say 'no', this item has control over you)

  • Is this a choice I can be happy with on Monday/on the first of the new year?

  • IS THIS really contributing to my health? Is this nourishing my body?

Will you enter the New Year 61 Days BEHIND or still rocking your health routines and habits?
