HAPPY THANKSGIVING
“He who has health, has hope; and he who has hope, has everything.”
– Arabian Proverb
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
YOU ALWAYS HAVE OPTIONS - WHICH ARE YOU CHOOSING?
I hope this finds you well and filled with Gratitude!
In my last post, I mentioned the three options you have going into a Holiday (or vacation, or trip, etc) - as I see them, when you're contending for your health.
I wanna delve just a little deeper into them here, but first - one of your options is healthIER recipes for your meal.
IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR SOME HEALTHY RECIPES, check out last weeks blog here: Healthy Thankgiving!
So back to your Options... I'm going to go in reverse order from how I presented these before
3....2.....1
Ready to dive in? Let's go! 👊
OPTION 3 - JUMP SHIP
Eat what you want. Drink what you want. Do what you want. Put yourself in the mindset that you were in before you started your health journey. If on 5&1, plan to take 3-4 days to get back in fatburn once you start back up on your plan and even longer to regain structure and momentum.
You are totally free to make your choices, but you are not free from the consequences, let's chat about what you want to be experiencing afterward and what your ultimate goal is.
IF THIS IS YOUR CHOICE, the most important thing is to decide WHEN YOU ARE GETTING back on your health plan. The sooner the better. If you wait more than a day or two, chances are, you will struggle and be further behind NEXT Thanksgiving. I have seen this play out time and time again.
OPTION 2 - THREE BITE PLAN
Drink your water, fuel your body, have a full Lean and Green meal and take 3 bites of the food that you CHOOSE to have that are around the holiday table.
1st bite is for taste
2nd bite is to enjoy
3rd bite us to say "buh-bye" (if you are on my 5&1 fat burn plan, this will kick you out of fatburn for a few days)
A note of caution: if three bites, or even ONE bite of a certain food sends you down a spiral where you are in a sugar addictive state for days or weeks - it is best to pass that item up. YOU WILL REGRET giving in and you'll have a really hard time recovering. This is the case when ABSTINENCE is better than MODERATION. If you are on the Habits of Health Program and have Your LifeBook, go read Element 16 if you KNOW that this is a problem for you.
OPTION 1 - ROCK IT OUT
Stay 100% on your health plan. Drink your water, fuel your body every 2.5 - 3 hours, eat a healthy Lean and Green meal (turkey is a great LEAN and you can plan your veggies ahead of time), JUST SAY NO and focus on the people, the activities and the gratitude of the day.
This gives you the most long-term success, the most feeling of congruency with your new healthy lifestyle and leaves you with no day-after regret.
So - Option 3, you say you want to be healthy but you've chosen to completely abandon that at least for a day.
Option 2, again, you say you want to be healthy, but you're chosing to give yourself a bunch of wiggle room that has the potential to lead you down a path is further away from your goals that you are now.
Option 1 - great plan. I know you can do it.... but, what happens when you smell the smells? When everyone is enjoying what you have chosen not to. People may be acting like food pushers. Can you stand up to that? I hope so - but what if you cave?
WHY?
REALLY, WHY?
This is not to shame you, it's an honest question.
Now I get it, you are reading this post, maybe even getting my weekly newsletters, but you may not be a client of mine. If you are not serious about getting healthier, you can skip to the end or exit out because I'm not really talking to those who have PROCLAIMED that they desire a healthly life, whether or not they are working with me 1:1 as a client on their health journey.
Ok, if you're still here, I take it either you are working closely with me or are serious about getting heathy on your own.
Here are some things I've either heard from clients or have experienced myself:
It's THANKSGIVING, it's my one day to SPLURGE!
"so and so" made it, I don't want to be "that person"/hurt their feelings/seem weird/ruin their effort
I was a guest and didn't want to appear ungrateful, c'mon Coach Donna, it's the day to show our GRATITUDE!
It's the only time of the year that I get "this food"
The temptation was too strong, I couldn't resist!
Grandma/Aunt may not be here next year, it might be my last chance!
What is yours? Please send me a message HERE, I'd love to know!
Here's the deal - YOU have decided this, no outside factor has planted these thoughts. You have the power to flip this script. Unless someone holds you down and forces food in your mouth - YOU made this decision.
If you decide to SPLURGE, admit it, don't blame someone else or some situation. Remember this though, you are also choosing the consequences. OWN your decision. No shame, but no blame either. If this makes your health journey take longer, you chose that. If this makes you bloated, stuffed, uncomfortable, frustrated with yourself, you know that ahead of time and chose it.
I've mentioned my one trick that has helped me (although I am not perfect by any means) is to look at anything that I KNOW is NOT leading me to my best health and just imagine, if this were coconut or brussels sprouts, how would I respond? Fit your most hated food into all the scenarios above (or your own scenario) and contemplate how you would respond.
For me, sorry Grandma, I love you, your coconut cake looks amazing. (not gonna eat it).
Sister, your dinner table spread is beautiful (I'll pass on the brussels).
There is no way I'll over indulge on olives (mashed potatoes, another story!!!!)
Let me wrap the mindset set shift with the following thoughts:
Do you PROCLAIM and identify as the person you want to become?
“I am a healthy person”
That is the first step, what does the HEALTHY you do?
Ok, so I hope you've given some thought to your desired outcome for THIS Holiday (yes, we'll be revisiting this in less than a month around Christmas!)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Most of your journey to healthy - Healthy Body, Healthy Mind, Healthy Relationships, Healthy Finances, Healthy Faith Life, will all boil down to two basic things:
1️⃣ SWAPS - swap out the old habit/food/action with a new one
2️⃣ FLIPPING THE SCRIPT - reframing the situation to create a scenario that fits with and helps to create your true desired outcome.
Everything else, the minor details, falls under these two categories. It is SO MUCH your mindset and deciding for your ultimate goal.
